Greetings, everyone! Can you believe it's been over a year since our inaugural group of students along with two parents/chaperones went to Glauchau in April, 2006? (See picture of our students with their new German friends!) A lot has happened since then! Not only did the group have a wonderful experience visiting Glauchau, we hosted a group of twelve students and two teachers from there in October. And, as of April 30th, Glauchau officially became our sister city! Whew! It has been a busy year!
So, here we are with another group of area students leaving for Glauchau on June 18th, and Lynn Dodge suggested setting up a blog for the students to keep in touch and post news about their trip. So, now we have a blog set up!
We invite all of their parents and friends as well as our Sister City members and friends, here and in Glauchau, to visit the blog and post comments for our travelers or the folks at home. Let me know if you have any questions about using the blog at my blog e-mail address: bbsistercity@gmail.com.
We look forward to all the news about Glauchau!
Barbara

I´m very happy to host Bruce Little. He is such a nice and friendly boy, we like him very much. At the last two days we talked a lot about everything.
We did show him Glauchau and ate ice cream; Roster, Sauerkraut, Mashpotatos and "Wiener Schnitzel". Today it´s planned to have a tour around some castles.

Glauchau is great. Yesterday, we went to school then after we went to a youth club and played poker with other german kids. Then after that, we went to a German restaurant and had the best wiener schnitzel i have ever had. Today we are going to a castle with the others in the group.

On Thursday we went to 2 castles in Rochlitz and Wechselburg. They were very interesting and nice. On Friday we went to Dresden and went on a sight-seeing tour. There were many old buildings, and we saw Semperoper, Frauenkirche, the Zwinger and the castle of August the Strong. After that we went to the restaurant "Sophienkeller" in the "Taschenbergpalais". The food was delicious and then we went to the "Altmarkt Galerie" which is a shopping mall in Dresden. And then we went home and watched some movies and had delicious cake. This morning we are going to Zwickau to go shopping and the supermarket and
a market from the middle age. In the afternoon we are going to friends to a party where we eat pig on a brocket over a fire. I am having a great time and the family is very nice to me and love having me here.

On Sunday we went to the Meißen museum. We saw many porcelien items. Then we saw 2 castles in Moritzburg then on Monday and Teusday we went to a youth hostle. We went into a mine and then went bowling afterwards then had a barbeque for dinner. On Teusday we went to the lake there and made a raft and canoed. On Wednesday we went to the castle of Glauchau and the church. In the castle we met the Lord Mayor. On Thursday we went to the VW factory. Today we went to Waldenburg castle, and ate at a cafe there. Tomorrow we are going to Berlin with a his friend and Martins mom. On Sunday we are going on a tour around the "Iron Mountains" (Erzgebirge).
My mum says it´s nice to learn a lot of new facts about America, Lynchburg and the culture and the people there. She also says, that it´s very nice, that there is such a nice contact between Lynchburg and Glauchau. The way between our two cities is very far, but our hearts are very near to each other.
We are very happy, that I have the chance to go to Lynchburg in fall and meet its people.
We would be very lucky, if Bruce (and his sister and mum)comes anytime to Germany and stays in our family.
- Bruce and Martin
